Irish Arts Review - Summer 2009

Jonathan Dalton is featured in the Summer edition of the Irish Arts Review for his painting  "I Was Anticpating Something More Substantial" in a piece by Catherine Marshall. "The painting , in acrylic on board, is so accomplished it beggars belief that it was painted by an artist who studied philosophy rather than painting."

"None of the visual reminders of the sitter's status or interests are provided to resolve the mystery... The picture brings us to the edge of the unknown."

"Likeness it certainly is but the artist's ability to express emotional strain and uncertainity make this less of a portrait and more of a history painting."

Royal Hibernian Academy Award

Jonathan Dalton was awarded the Ireland US Council & Irish Arts Review Award for Outstanding Portraiture at the Royal Hibernian Academy's 2009 Annual Exhibition for his painting "I Was Anticpating Something More Substantial."

The Irish Times
